Who We Are

YWCA Moncton is part of our country’s oldest and largest women’s multi-service organization, YWCA Canada, and exists in solidarity with the global YWCA movement, which serves 25 million women and girls throughout 125 countries while driving the international gender-based human rights agenda.

YWCA Moncton is a community-based women's resource centre committed to social justice with a focus on gender equity and leads women’s services and gender equity work at local and regional levels, and participates in the YWCA movement nationally and globally.

We address immediate community and individual needs through programs and services that disrupt cycles of violence, poverty, and social exclusion. In addition to direct service, we also provide public education, engage in advocacy, and host community events that challenge oppression at interpersonal, community, and institutional levels.

Greater Moncton Area: Community-Based Direct Service

Our community-based programming and direct services are concentrated in the Greater Moncton Area and surrounding municipalities of Westmorland County.

Within Greater Moncton, our work is based out of our offices in the Community Peace Centre (located in Moncton’s downtown core) and on an outreach basis. Outreach programming and services operate in NB Housing Communities, at schools, and in collaboration with partner agencies. Programs and services offered outside of the Greater Moncton area are delivered in collaboration with local agencies and schools.

New Brunswick: Capacity-Building

We work with communities outside of Greater Moncton and surrounding area that are interested in strengthening their approach to gender-equity issues and delivering new programming modeled on YW initiatives. We’ve partnered with communities in Westmorland, Albert, and Kent counties in New Brunswick, as well as St John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Recently, YWCA Moncton began leading the work to re-establish a vibrant and sustainable YWCA presence in Greater Saint John, New Brunswick—the birthplace of our Canadian YWCA movement—with support from YWCA Canada and YWCAs throughout the country.

Canada and the World: the YWCA Movement

YWCA Moncton is part of our country’s oldest and largest women’s multi-service organization, YWCA Canada, and exists in solidarity with the global YWCA movement, which serves 25 million women and girls throughout 125 countries while driving the international gender-based human rights agenda.

As a member of both YWCA Canada and World YWCA, YWCA Moncton supports the success of these organizations through affiliation dues—though that’s not the most valuable contribution we make to the YW movement. We align ourselves with the vision of both YWCA Canada and World YWCA and put their expertise and resources to work directly in our community, changing the lives of women and girls, every day. We also stand in solidarity with the strategic and long-term work our national and global offices engage in, such as supporting young women’s leadership and intergenerational governance.
